CHITTAGONG, July 23 (UNB): As a measure to curb corruption in court precincts, the police have been barred from coming in Chittagong court compound with more than Tk 100 in their possession.
There have been allegations that the police had been taking bribes for their help in the courts here, as elsewhere in the country, for so long. And the preventive came at a time when anti-corruption drives have kept suspects -- however high and mighty -- on their toes in a reversal of their fortunes.
"This order has been issued following allegations of the police taking bribe for various work in the court", CMP Assistant Commissioner (Prosecution) Md Farid said.
If they have to bring more money with them for any urgent need, they will have to deposit it with the AC (Prosecution).
The army-aided interim regime has launched a nationwide purge against pervasive corruption, which has put behind bars scores of high-profile corruption suspects-including politicians, business tycoons and officials.
