The police started quizzing former state minister for Home Affairs Lutfozzaman Babar Friday for his suspected links to the August 21, 2004, grenade attack.
The police went into action, a day after the apex Appellate Division overturned a High Court order barring him to be remanded in the police custody, reports BSS.
"Mr Babar has been remanded in our custody for five days for interrogation," said a senior Criminal Investigation Department (CID) official, tasked to reinvestigate the grenade attack on an Awami League rally five years ago killing 24 people and injuring or crippling over 300 others.
The CID officials said Mr Babar was brought to their head office in Malibagh area under heavy security escort from the Kashimpur Jail in line with Thursday's Appellate Division orders secured by the prosecution.
The apex court directive was referred last evening to the metropolitan magistrate, which originally ordered the former state minister to be remanded in custody for five days Wednesday.
Magistrate Ehsanul Haque rejected a plea by Babar's lawyers for further hearing on the remand prayer next day after Special Prosecutor Sayed Rezaur Rahman read out the fax copy of the apex court order.
