Awami League (AL) General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said on Friday the post-Amphan rehabilitation activities have been started under the supervision of Prime Minister (PM) Sheikh Hasina, reports BSS.

"We are now facing two challenges… Prevention and treatment of the novel coronavirus and assistance and rehabilitation of cyclone Amphan-hit victims.

Rehabilitation activities have been started already under the supervision of the premier," he said.

He said this in a video conference from his official residence before distributing Eid gift items among the helpless poor people at the initiative of Swechchhasebak League and Chhatra League at Madhur Canteen on Dhaka University premises in the city.

The armed forces, police administration and other voluntary organisations are carrying out rehabilitation activities including rescue operations, he said, adding that especially the Army, Navy and Air Force have been conducting rescue and rehabilitation activities and providing medical assistance to the people and also repairing embankments in the affected areas.

Mentioning that the struggle for survival is the biggest challenge for people rather than celebrating the joy of Eid, Quader said. "This time Eid-ul-Fitr is knocking at the door with a different reality."

He urged all to fight against the coronavirus unitedly maintaining proper health guidelines as the fight for survival is the biggest challenge now.

Lauding the relief activities of the leaders and workers of Awami League and its associated bodies amid the coronavirus outbreak, he urged them to stand by the helpless and needy people before observing the holy Eid.

"Leaders and activists of the AL and its affiliated organisations

have set a rare example of relief efforts in the corona crisis," he said.

Bangladesh Swechchhasebak League president Nirmal Ranjan Guha and general secretary Afzal Babu, Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) president Al Nahian Khan Joy and general secretary Lekhak Bhattacharya were present, among others, on the occasion of the Eid gift distribution programme.
