BHOLA, Apr 20 (UNB): The Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) ATM Shamsul Huda said Tuesday that all preparations aimed at holding the April 24 Bhola-3 by-election in a free and fair manner have been completed.
He said arrangements would be made for peaceful arrival of the voters in polling centres. Five policemen led by a magistrate would be deployed for security of the two candidates, the CEC added while addressing a meeting of government officials and law enforcers at the DC office here.
About 1,500 security personnel would be on duty at Lalmohon and Tojumuddin upazilas on the polling day, said the CEC.
The CEC came here Tuesday on a two-day visit to survey the preparations ahead of the by-election.
Referring to the incidents of violence, he said that outsiders were involved in some incidents, not the local voters. He said that RAB and police were working jointly to check the infiltration of outsiders.
Dr Huda said that there was no alternative to a fair poll here, as the voters, the administration and the Election Commission all wanted it.
