President Abdul Hamid asked Tuesday divisional and deputy commissioners (DCs) to work with integrity to develop Bangladesh into a prosperous nation, reports UNB.
"The implementation of programmes taken by government is largely depended on the cordial endeavor of divisional and deputy commissioners," the President said.
He was addressing the deputy commissioners who called on him at Bangabhavan as part of the three-day DCs' conference that began in Dhaka Tuesday.
"You are the chief coordinators of multi-purpose activities of the government at the field levels," he told the officials.
The President gave 12-point directives to the DCs in implementing the government's programmes at grassroots level in the 12 sectors: agriculture, social safety net, education, health, land, ICT, price control of essentials, conducting mobile courts, development of physically challenged and autistic people, climate change and youth development.
The President asked the DCs to continue their effort for ensuring timely supply of fertilizers and seeds, irrigation facilities and disbursement of loans to the farmers as country's economy is depended on agriculture. The President said the drop-out rate in primary school has decreased significantly. The DCs can play a special role to sustain the trend, he said.
The President asked the DCs to be more active to ease public harassment related to land management.
Meanwhile, Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid said Tuesday the government is going to form a teacher recruitment commission, aiming to curb irregularities in recruitment to non-government educational institutions.
The commission like the Public Service Commission (PSC) will appoint teachers as per demand to be placed by the educational institutions, he said.
"The government has already taken initiatives and is working to form the teacher recruitment commission," the minister told reporters while emerging from the DCs Conference held at the Cabinet Room of the Cabinet Division at the Secretariat.
Nahid said he asked the DCs to solve the local problems of educational institutions locally and play an important role in ensuring quality education in their respective districts.
