President Professor Dr Iajuddin Ahmed and Chief Adviser Dr Fakhruddin Ahmed have urged all sections of the people as well as the non-government organisations (NGOs), development partners and the local government bodies to involve themselves in the activities to achieve 'Sanitation for All' by 2010.
In separate messages Sunday on the eve of the National Sanitation Month beginning throughout the country today (Monday), Iajuddin Ahmed and Fakhruddin Ahmed welcomed the initiative to carry out the month-long sanitation programmes in October with a view to attaining 100 per cent success in this sector, reports BSS.
The President in his message said the government has been working relentlessly for the last few years to provide hygienic facilities to the people. The sanitation programme has already turned into a social movement, earning praise at home and abroad as an example that can be followed by others, he said.
"Healthy and clean environment is one of the pre-requisites of the national development," Iajuddin Ahmed said and expressed the hope that the national sanitation movement would make a significant contribution in fulfilling all preconditions for further progress and prosperity.
The Chief Adviser in his message wished a total success of the month-long sanitation programme and expressed the hope that it would play an important role in creating awareness among the people and ensure their active participation in establishing a hygienic atmosphere in the country.
"I call upon all NGOs, partners in development and local government bodies to extend their spontaneous supports towards this noble programme," he said.
