"Vast potential of IT will have to be used in our national development," he said while inaugurating the network of Banglalion WiMAX at a city hotel Sunday.
The WiMAX network of Banglalion, a high speed internet network, has been extended to the seven divisional headquarters across the country.
Information and Cultural Affairs Minister Abul Kalam Azad, Commerce Minister Faruk Khan, Industries Minister Dilip Barua and Chairman of Banglalion Communication Technology Maj (retd) Abdul Mannan also spoke at the function.
Addressing the function, the President said the benefits of IT cannot be reached to the people's doorsteps by merely launching internet, facebook or mobile SMS but this technology should be used to fulfill the people's demands in their daily activities including in agriculture, education, health, employment, and all sorts of registration.
He said, "When IT will be used for the welfare of the ordinary people, the use of technology will be considered really successful."
