President for reopening closed mills for smooth industrialisation

President Zillur Rahman emphasised the need for reopening the closed industries to ensure robust industrialisation in the country through tapping the available potential, reports UNB.
The suggestion came from the highest level of the state when Industries Minister Dilip Barua paid a courtesy call on the President at Bangabhaban and apprised him of the new government's thrust on industrialisation.
"Massive industrialisation is a must to ensure a strong economy for attaining aspired development goals," the President said.
During the meeting, the minister informed the President about government's different steps for reopening the closed mills, especially the jute and paper industries.
A large number of mills and factories have been shut down on donor prescription over the years following mismanagement and resultant losses, largely due to reported political misrule in the past.
Dilip Barua, chief of a left political party, Samyabadi Dal, also apprised the President that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina herself was 'keen' to expand the industrial sector aiming to create more jobs.
"The government is planning to create special economic zones in different areas to encourage local and foreign investors," said the minister.
He apprised the President that a new industrial policy was being formulated improving upon the existing policy to ensure smooth industrialisation across t he country.
The President gave him a patient hearing and assured him his utmost cooperation.
Secretary of the President's Office Mohammad Shafiul Alam, Military Secretary to the President Brig Gen Md Ehtesham Ul Haque and President's Press Secretary Abdul Awal Howlader were present during the meeting.
