President Iajuddin Ahmed Monday underlined the need for enhancing bilateral trade and commerce for mutual benefits of Bangladesh and Yemen, reports UNB.
The President also felt that exchange of trade delegations between the two countries could yield better results in the field of trade.
He urged the Middle Eastern nation to take Bangladeshi manpower.
The President's statement came when the newly-appointed Ambassador of the Republic of Yemen in Bangladesh, based in New Delhi, Mustapha Ahmed M Noman presented his credentials to him at Bangabhaban.
Yemen is washed by the Arabian Sea, the Gulf of Aden and the Red Sea, and borders Oman and Saudi Arabia.
Iajuddin also made his observation that the two nations could benefit from educational exchange programmes, particularly in the field of engineering and information technology.
Congratulating the envoy, the President said Bangladesh attached great importance to its friendly relations with Yemen.
He said he was happy with the current bilateral relations between the two countries with a hope of better cooperation in the future.
Iajuddin said that Bangladesh and Yemen have historic ties for centuries with shared common values, faith and culture, and have an excellent relationship with the brotherly people of Yemen.
He said that Yemen was one of the earliest countries that recognised Bangladesh as an independent state. Yemen's recognition came in November, 1973.
The President apprised the envoy that Bangladesh was endowed with huge skilled and non-skilled manpower, and the Government of Yemen could recruit Bangladeshi workforces and experts to meet their development requirements.
He also told the envoy that the government of Yemen may import high class pharmaceuticals, ceramics, frozen fish, garments, jute and leather products from Bangladesh at a very competitive price.
The envoy said that the relations between Yemen and Bangladesh were excellent, and it would be further strengthened during his days.
He also praised the role of Bangladeshi troops for upholding world peace under the UN Peacekeeping Operation.
The Ambassador sought cooperation from the President of Bangladesh in discharging his duties in Bangladesh.
Earlier, on his arrival at Bangabhaban, the Ambassador was given a guard of honour by the President's Guard Regiment. The Ambassador took salute and inspected the parade.
Secretary of the President's Office Md Sirajul Islam, Foreign Secretary Md Touhid Hossain, Military Secretary to the President Maj Gen Muhammad Ruhul Amin and President's Press Secretary Abdul Awal Howlader were present on the occasion.
