The president's office has written to the Cabinet Division for a list of former Bangladesh presidents and their tenures to 'update the Bangabhaban website', reports bdnews24.com.
The move come two months after BNP chief Khaleda Zia and her son claimed party's founder Ziaur Rahman was the first president.
A Bangabhaban official told the news agency about the letter.
The letter, a copy of which is available with bdnews24.com, says the Bangabhaban does not have a list of former presidents and details of their tenure.
It says a list detailing their biographies and assumption of office was necessary 'for conserving a real list, using it if needed, and uploading it on the Bangabhaban website'.
About seeking a list, Senior Secretary Sheikh Altaf Ali told the news agency that they needed it to update the Bangabhaban website and a book, 'Shoto Bochhorer Itihash' (history of hundred years).
"The Cabinet prepares such lists and so, we sought a list with the correct names and spellings," he said.
At present, the Bangabhaban website lists 16 presidents but does not mention their tenures.
BNP founder Ziaur Rahman is seventh on the list.
His son Tarique Rahman, also senior vice-chairman of BNP, had claimed in a programme in London on March 25 that his father was the first president.
"Zia was the first president of independent Bangladesh," Tarique said, claiming he was the one who had declared independence.
Tarique's mother and party chief Khaleda Zia, too, endorsed her son's claim some days later.
The High Court had ordered that Zia should not be described as the one who proclaimed independence.
Bangladesh saw a spell of military coups after the assassination of the father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in 1975.
