"As per recommendation for the upcoming education policy, primary education may be extended up-to class eight. So the primary teachers' responsibility will increase in implementing education policy," said Menon, chairman of the parliamentary standing committee on education ministry.
He was speaking as chief guest at a discussion on 'Existing Problems and Immediate Solution of Primary Education' at Workers' Party Office in the city, organized by Bangladesh Primary Teachers’ Association.
The association leaders demanded for upgrading the post of head teachers to Class II and removing problems of payment of their salary to ensure quality of education.
Assuring of his efforts to fulfill their demands Rashed Khan Menon said primary education is the foundation of all educations. This has to be acknowledged by the government and give due importance to it.
He sought cooperation of the association leaders in implementing the government's upcoming education policy and asked them to be prepared to take greater responsibility.
Menon informed that the government is also moving ahead to launch a unified educational system brining all primary educations including English medium schools and kindergartens under a single curriculum.
Bangladesh Primary Teachers' Association's president Nurul Absar and general secretary Siddikur Rahman, among others, took part in the discussion.
