Police have detained a pro-BNP lawyer in Bagerhat over a clash between law enforcers and supporters of the 20-party alliance on February 5, reports bdnews24.com.

The agitators were trying to block the Dhaka-Khulna highway by felling road-side trees in the Hazrat Khanjahan Ali Majar area during the shutdown on that day.

The 50-year-old Kazi Shahidullah was picked up from the Khardwar area on Sunday night over the incident, Bagerhat Model Police OC Md Ali Azam said.

Shahidullah is being questioned in connection with the case filed over the clash.

A total of 31 persons, including BNP district chief MA Salam and General Secretary Ali Reza, have been named in the case.

Senior vice president of BNP district unit Sheikh Wahiduzzaman Dipu alleged that the detention was to harass Shahidullah.

He said the police had also gone to the house of Ayub Ali Molla Babu, general secretary of the district Juba Dal, youth-wing of the BNP.

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has called for an indefinite blockade since January 5 along with sporadic spells of shutdown demanding interim polls under a non-partisan government.
