BNP-loyal lawyers on Sunday alleged that the ruling Awami League made the 16th amendment to the constitution under a deep rooted conspiracy as it wants to secure its reign in perpetuity controlling all the institutional bodies like the judiciary, reports UNB.
The allegation was made while addressing a protest rally following a black flag-waiving demonstration demanding repeal of the 16th amendment passed recently by the parliament. The black-gown protesters began demonstration on the first floor of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) building and later brought out a procession that marched round the Supreme Court premises. At the rally, the speakers urged the entire lawyer community of the country, irrespective of their party affiliation to intensify the demand of repealing the 16th amendment empowering the parliament to remove the Supreme Court judges on the ground of proven misconduct or incapacity.
