Terming the government an anti-people one, BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said on Tuesday the national budget for the fiscal year 2018-19 is unlikely to be public welfare-oriented one, reports UNB.
"No one can expect a public-oriented budget from an anti-people government. There's no reason that the current regime will place a pro-people budget when it has taken a position against them," he said.
The BNP leader made the remarks while speaking at a press conference at the party's Nayapaltan central office in the city.
Rizvi said his party will come up with a formal reaction to the budget after the Finance Minister places it before the parliament.
Rizvi criticised Muhith for his remark that the prices of the essentials did not unusually go up over the last 10 years, saying it is a weird remark.
He also alleged Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has blatantly mocked with people with her remark that democracy stands on a solid ground in Bangladesh with a strong economy.
"Bangladesh is moving backward, not ahead, under the rule of the current government."
The BNP leader voiced concern that the Eid holidaymakers will have to go through terrible sufferings during their journey to and from home due to poor condition of roads and highways.
