Pro-poor, people-oriented health management is a must: experts

Speakers at a survey report presentation meeting in Rajshahi Friday underlined the need for making the country's health management system pro-poor and people-oriented so that the poor and marginal people can always receive their healthcare facilities from the government hospitals, reports BSS.
They also said importance should be given on reflecting the common people's opinion in the proposed health policy in the greater interest of building a pro-poor and people-friendly health management system.
In this context, they noted that the existing public level health management system should not be privatised. But, it could be more effective side by side with encouraging the public sector for ensuring healthcare facilities for all including the rural ones, they added.
Local unit of Campaign for Good Governance (CGG) arranged the meeting on presenting recommendations of a survey conducted on the present position of two public level healthcare institutions at the GDRC conference hall.
CGG district unit secretary Akbarul Hassan Millat presented the recommendations of the survey. Mayor of Rajshahi AHM Khairuzzaman Liton and Deputy Civil Surgeon Dr Abul Fazal addressed the meeting as the chief and special guests respectively with CGG President Prof Fazlul Haque in the chair.
President of Health Rights Campaign Committee Mozammel Haque, CGG Vice-president Mustafizur Rahman Khan Alam, Director Uma Chowdhury and Programme Officer Shahidullah, Deputy Chief of Rajshahi University Medical Centre Dr AFM Zaheed, Regional Manager of NGO Forum Mijanur Rahman, Secretary of Barendra Unnayan Forum Foyezullah Chowdhury, NGO leaders Sarwar-e-Kamal, Afzal Hossain and SKL Muhammad Lalon, BLAST Coordinator Advocate Abdus Samad, among others, took part in the open discussion.
