Law Minister Shafique Ahmed Sunday underscored that trial of the perpetrators of crimes against humanity would start by May this year, reports UNB.
"The prosecution team and the investigation team have already collected data and information about the perpetrators who committed crimes against humanity in 1971, and we will able to start trial against them by May," the law minister told reporters at a press briefing after a meeting with members of the prosecution and investigation teams at his office in the afternoon.
He said that in the first phase, the prosecution and investigation teams would be able to compile a list of charges against the criminals, and the trial would be started according to the list.
Barrister Ahmed informed the newsmen that they were going to introduce a law to protect the prosecution witnesses (PW).
Describing the findings of the meeting, he said the investigation agencies could detain the alleged criminals against humanity according to the directions of the tribunal.
