Process on to form district council: PM

Leader of the House and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday told the Jatiya Sangsad that process was on to form district council in line with the election pledges of the government, reports BSS. Replying to a question during the Prime Minister's Question- Answer session, she said a chairman will be appointed to the district council. The council will be comprised of a chairman, 15 members and five female members in the reserved seats for women for smooth running of the activities of the local government body, she said. The Prime Minister said the tenure of the district council would be five years from its first meeting. While replying to another question she said, a total of 1,40,501 people including 52,090 women were recruited by the government until December last year in the revenue sector. Besides, the Prime Minister said process is on to appoint manpower against 2,74,111 vacant posts in different ministries. Giving details, the Prime Minister said, apart from this, steps have been taken to create job opportunities for 0.85 million rural people under the Employment Generation Programme of the government for the ultra poor in rural areas. Sheikh Hasina said employment opportunities have been created for 5.37 million people across the country in the current fiscal under the government's Food for Work and Test Relief programmes.
