Dr Abdullah-Al-Mamun, professor of the Department of Japanese Studies at the University of Dhaka, has been appointed as a full-time member of the University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh.
The Secondary and Higher Education Division under the Ministry of Education issued an official notification in this regard on Saturday.
According to the notification, Dr Mamun has been given the appointment for a four-year term under the University Grants Commission Act, 1973. His appointment became effective from the date of his joining. He has already submitted a joining letter to the commission's chairman.
Dr Abdullah-Al-Mamun previously served as chairman of the Department of Japanese Studies at Dhaka University.
In 2024, he received the prestigious Fulbright Research Professorship at Adelphi University. Earlier, in 2023, he served as a Japan Foundation Fellow at the International University of Japan.
He earned his PhD in International Economic Development in 2020 from the Department of Economics, Finance and Accounting at University of Huddersfield.
In 2018, he obtained a postgraduate certificate in Research Methodology from the same university.
Dr Mamun also earned a certificate in Law from Northumbria University in 2009. In addition, he holds an MBA degree in Marketing and completed a postgraduate diploma course in Japanese Studies from Dhaka University.
He obtained both his undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in Sociology from the University of Dhaka.
