Bangladesh Sammilito Peshajibi Parishad - a platform of professionals - has urged for a meaningful dialogue to resolve the ongoing political crisis that will pave the way for holding an acceptable and inclusive election.
They also promised to continue their movement until their demand (of holding dialogue) is met.
To press home their demand they will form human chains across the country on January 27 next.
Their observations came at a press briefing at the conference lounge of the National Press Club in the city on Friday.
Acting convener of the Parishad journalist Ruhul Amin Gazi read out a written statement at the briefing.
"The present political crisis was created following the controversial election on January 5, 2014. The people of the country have lost their voting rights due to the election," he said.
He said though the ruling class says that the election on January 5, 2014 was held merely to maintain the constitutional process, now they say that there would be no election before 2019.
And because of the situation arisen since then the 20-party alliance, led by Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), announced movement for establishing democracy and voting rights, he said.
The countrywide blockade is going on to realise the demand and the government is trying to stop the movement through resorting to repressive measures, he added.
The United Nations (UN) Human Rights Commission, the US State Department, the European Union and civil society members of the country have requested the government to resolve the crisis peacefully through dialogue, he said.
"We the professionals (peshajibira) also think that there will be no solution through repressions by the law enforcing agencies. A constructive political dialogue could be the only way out," he said.
He said the BNP-led alliance has already proposed to the government for a dialogue. And it is now the government's turn to take steps to hold a meaningful dialogue.
President of a faction of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) Shawkat Mahmud said the government should take the initiative for resolving the ongoing political crisis since it was created due to the controversial January 5, 2014 election.
Secretary General of BFUJ MA Aziz, Vice President of Doctors Association of Bangladesh (DAB) Dr Rafique Al Kabir Labu, its Finance Secretary Prof Mostaque Rahim Swapan, Senior Joint Secretary General Dr SM Rafiqul Islam Bachchu, General Secretary of Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) Jahangir Alam Prodhan, former dean of Dhaka University Dr Sadrul Amin, Prof Shamsul Alam of Jahangirnagar University, former vice chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) Prof Abdul Mannan Mian, former general secretary of Dhaka University Teachers Association (DUTA) Obaidur Rahman, General Secretary of National Press Club  Syed Abdal Ahmed and Joint Secretary Kader Gani Chowdhury, among others, were present.
