Qamrul urges all to rally round Sheikh Hasina

Food Minister Md Qamrul Islam on Sunday urged the people to rally round Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina so that she can get elected in the parliamentary polls for another term for the continuation of the country's development spree, reports BSS.

"The Awami League (AL) government is a pro-liberation government. Our government has honored the freedom fighters and brought the anti-liberation forces (Rajakars) into book. So, you should cast your valuable votes for the pro-liberation forces," he said at a discussion at Ghatarchar Primary School ground at Keraniganj in the city, marking the Ghatarchar Genocide Day.

Development of the country means improving the living standard of the people, the minister said, adding, "You should vote for those, who will work for the country's development".

On this day in 1971, the Pakistani occupation forces carried out a sudden attack in Ghatarchar and killed 57 people, including men and women, and set numerous homes on fire.

Some 34 people were buried in a mass grave here. Since, the incident took place in Ghatarchar, the people of the area have been observing the day as the 'Ghatarchar Genocide Day' on November 25.
