Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Tuesday called upon the pro-liberation political parties to forge unity against the communal forces, reports BSS.
"We want to forge national unity among the pro-liberation political parties against the communal and anti-liberation forces and corruption, terrorism and ill politics," he told a rally at Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) auditorium here.
Samyabadi Dal organised the rally marking its 71st founding anniversary with the party's general secretary Dilip Barua in the chair.
Politburo members of Samyabadi Dal Md Lutfar Rahman and Biren Sarker and leaders of 14-party alliance were present on the occasion.
Quader, also road transport and bridges minister, said: "Let us be united on the point of the Liberation War and Bangabandhu. Leadership of Bangabandhu's daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is essential to protect the Liberation War spirit".
The AL general secretary said those who love Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and believe in the spirit of the Liberation War would not weaken the pro-liberation forces because of trifle misunderstandings among themselves.
The minister said conspiracies are being hatched against the country and the key target of the conspirators is Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
The evil forces are also plotting to assassinate Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, he added.
About the left-leaning organisations, he termed the decision of leftist politicians of not joining the unity of communal forces as a big qualitative change in the country's political arena.
About BNP's allegation that cases have been filed against the party leaders to harass them, Quader said the government does not want that any case is filed to harass anybody.
The minister said the police have information that BNP-Jamaat is making an evil design to create anarchy and violence to thwart the next parliamentary election like in 2014.
"If police lodge cases on the basis of such information, those cases cannot be called harassing ones," he added.
He urged the BNP leaders to go to court to prove them as not guilty.
Speaking on the occasion, Dilip Barua said BNP-Jamaat had betrayed with the principles of the country always in the past and if they get chance again, they will betray with the state.
