Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Tuesday called upon the people to be economical, prudent and responsible in using state resources, reports BSS.
"Awami League thinks that it will not be difficult to deal with any crisis if the people make united efforts. We urge all - let us all be responsible and economical in using the state resources," he said in a statement.
Terming the ongoing energy crisis a global problem, Quader said cautionary steps are being taken so that Bangladesh is not hit hard by this crisis.
The incumbent government is taking time-befitting measures to address the crisis ahead, he said.
The AL general secretary said those, who are now raising question over the foreign exchange reserves, should remember that the country's economic base was severely weakened as it was champion in corruption five times in a row during their reign.
The country's foreign exchange reserves never exceeded US$ five billion during their tenure, he added.
Due to the economic development and good governance under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Quader said, Bangladesh's foreign exchange reserves stood at over US$ 48 billion, the highest ever in its history.
Under Sheikh Hasina's leadership, Bangladesh's export earnings exceeded US$ 50 billion, he added.
The road transport and bridges minister said when the prestigious US magazine - 'Newsweek'- published an article about the economic progress of Bangladesh, a group of pessimistic and failed politicians resorted to hue and cry.
They should remember that Bangladesh is moving forward under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina at the time when the developed countries are unable to check inflation due to the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war, he said.
Quader said the foreign exchange reserves of many developed countries have lessened dramatically due to the continuous rise in fuel price at world market.
After implementation of mega projects, it is very normal that those, who were involved in corruption and looting public money during their regime through Hawa Bhaban and Khouab Bhaban, would be irritated, he said.
The AL general secretary said the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) never believes in the politics of changing the fortunes of the country's people as its political philosophy is to establish the system of plundering.
He said for more than a century, Bangladesh has witnessed unprecedented development under the visionary leadership of Sheikh Hasina, the daughter of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
