The meeting between Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader and teachers' leaders calling for the scrapping of the 'Prottoy' universal pension scheme has been suspended, reports bdnews24.com.

Prof Nizamul Hoque Bhuiyan, the secretary general of the Federation of Bangladesh University Teachers' Association (FBUTA), confirmed the matter on Thursday.

He said the teachers' leaders had a meeting scheduled with Quader and Education Minister Mohibul Hassan Chowdhoury on Thursday.

But the meeting was suspended due to the busy schedule of the ruling party's general secretary.

However, the minister said he would meet with the protesters soon.

A complete work stoppage launched by the public university teachers will continue until their demands are met, Bhuiyan said.

The teachers have been staging an all-out work stoppage for a fourth consecutive day to press home their three demands.
