Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Thursday arrested a fugitive convict, who had been on run since his conviction in a war crime case in Hijla of Barishal, from the Madaripur Sadar area, reports BSS.

"The convict Md Abdul Majid, 80, son of late Miraj Ali, of Purvadhala police station in Netrakona district, was sentenced to death by the International Crimes Tribunal in a case of crimes against humanity during the Liberation War," Lieutenant Colonel Arif Mohiuddin Ahmed, Commanding Officer (Captain) of RAB-3 told newsmen at a press conference held at RAB Media Centre in city's Karwan Bazar.

According to RAB, Majid was the organizing secretary of Netrokona's Purbadhala Thana Jamaat-e-Islam in 1970. Apart from this, he was the head of Purbadhala Thana Committee of 'Al-badar'.

In 2019, he was awarded capital punishment for killing freedom fighters, arson, rape and robbery, RAB sources said.
