Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has taken all-out security measures alongside other law enforcement agencies to ensure a congenial atmosphere during the elections to three city corporations in Dhaka and Chittagong, reports UNB.
During the election period, the elite force will keep eyes on identified 'vulnerable centres' in the three city corporations -- Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) and Chittagong City Corporation (CCC), Director General (DG) of Rab Benazir Ahmed told a press briefing at RAB headquarters on Sunday.
The three city corporations go to polls on April 28.
The RAB DG also said all the petrol teams will be monitored through GPS tracking system from the headquarters as all the vehicles are now under vehicle tracking system.
Around 5,000 members will remain on election duty on the election day. The elite force will operate 268 petrol teams, 134 motorcycle patrol teams and 134 other petrol teams, while 36 teams will remain standby as striking reserve forces.
Benazir said they have already identified 'important (vulnerable) polling centers' both in Dhaka and Chittagong. Two patrol teams, two motorcycle petrol teams will be patrolling every ward of the three city corporations alongside intelligence vigilance of the anti-crime force.
Asked about the brandishing of illegal firearms ahead of the city corporation elections, Benazir said an investigation is going on in this regard and actions will be taken as per law of the land.
