Railway to reward for info about sabotage: Minister

Railways Minister M Mujibul Haq said Sunday the Bangladesh Railway will reward the informers for giving information with proofs leading to arrest of the masterminds of sabotages, including throwing stones and other sorts of attacks on railways, reports BSS.
He called upon the public representatives and the people of all strata to come forward to ensure smooth and secured transport of passengers and goods by the railway.
Briefing the journalists after an inter-ministerial meeting at Rail Bhaban in the city, the Minister said security committees would be formed in all railway station areas involving the people's representatives to protect the railway services.
The railway is working to ensure security of the passengers, he said, adding that all effective steps are being taken for unhindered transport of oil, fertiliser and other goods containers.
"Besides the railway police, we have deployed security forces of all levels for maintaining the highest security to stop clandestine attacks," Mujibul Haq said.
He urged the people to provide information to prevent sabotages on the following numbers: Police headquarters control room - 01769690033, GRP control room - 01785903712, divisional railway control rooms Dhaka - 01711691564, Chittagong - 01711691635, Pakshi - 01711691621 and Lalmonirhat - 01711691604.
The Minister said as per the existing law, pelting stones on trains is a crime punishable with a 10-year jail sentence.
To enhance standard of railway services, 120 bogies would be imported from India and 150 from Indonesia, he added.
