Rajapaksa appreciates Hasina for attending CHOGM

Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa has lauded Prime Minister (PM) Sheikh Hasina for her participation and active role in the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) held in Colombo in November last, reports UNB.

Rajapaksa conveyed his appreciation to Sheikh Hasina through Sri Lankan High Commissioner in Dhaka WA Sarath K Weragoda Tuesday.  Weragoda met Sheikh Hasina at her office.

During the meeting, the PM expressed her satisfaction over the existing friendly relations between the two countries that is based on historical ties and commonalities on culture, belief and values, and hoped that it would be further strengthened in the coming days.

PM's press secretary Abul Kalam Azad briefed reporters after the meeting.

Hasina termed the end to arms conflict in Sri Lanka as a welcome development not only for the Island Country but also for the entire region.

"Bangladesh has always been consistent in supporting Sri Lanka's fight against terrorism and insurgency," she said.

The Sri Lankan envoy handed over a CD on the CHOGM Colombo conference to the PM.

Ambassador At-Large M Ziauddin and Principal Secretary Shaikh Md Wahid-Uz-Zaman and PMO secretary Md Abul Kalam Azad were, among others, present on the occasion.
