Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK) is to start the Uttara flat project in December, an official said Monday.
"ECNEC has already approved the project and construction would start in December," Mahbub-ul-Alam, member (development) of RAJUK, told BSS.
Alam said a total of 20,160 flats would be constructed on 214 acres of land for middle and lower middle-income groups.
He said Ena Properties Ltd, a local company, and a Korean company would jointly construct the flats.
"We have undertaken the project considering the city's service holders and small traders," he added.
Under the project, he said, different types of flats -- 850, 1050 and 1250 square feet-would be constructed. Each building would be 16-storey and price of each square feet would be below Taka 3,500.
One can purchase a flat on seven-year instalments, said the RAJUK official.
The project will have numerous civic amenities including school, college, mosque, children's park, health centre, gymnasium, shopping centre and kitchen market.
