An integrated policy is urgently needed to approve the construction of multi-storeyed buildings to avert serious accidents like fire, experts said at a roundtable in the city Monday, reports UNB.
They said each multi-storeyed building must have approval from the fire service authorities first and then from the Rajuk.
The roundtable titled 'Fire Incidents at Multi-storeyed: Related Thoughts' was held at the National Press Club.
Paribesh Banchao Andolon (PBA) and WBB Trust jointly hosted the discussion with PBA Chairman Abu Naser Khan presiding. Vice Chancellor of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) AMM Shafiullah was present as the chief guest.
They suggested carrying out a study to find out the faulty fire fighting systems in different multi-storeyed buildings to avoid further disasters.
Dhaka, they said, was among the 10 most densely populated cities of the world and it should not be allowed to expand further.
