Awami League (AL) Advisory Council member Suranjit Sengupta directed Saturday the AL activists to remain alert against the BNP's movement, saying the opposition might carry out subversive activities against the government in the name of movement, reports BSS.
"The month 'August' is not only a mourning month for AL but this month is also a curse for the party...AL leaders and activists should be more alert against the conspiracy of BNP, because they might carry out subversive activities against the government," Suranjit said.
He said this while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion on 'Current Politics' arranged by Bangabandhu Academy (BA) at the Institution of Diploma Engineers, Bangladesh in the city's Kakrail area.
The government will not bar the movement of BNP if it opts for non-violent and harmless action programme, but the government's action will be tough if they try to create anarchy in the name of movement, he said.
Vice-president of Dhaka Mohanagar AL Fayez Uddin Mia, Director, Board of Directors of Rupali Bank Limited, Barrister Zakir Ahmed, and former president of Dhaka Mohanagar Jubo League (South) Minhaz Uddin Mintu also spoke with BA Adviser Haji Mohammad Selim in the chair.
Mr Suranjit, also the chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, said, "Conspiracy against our leader Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is still going on, so we need to be more conscious to foil any kind of conspiracy of BNP."
Another report adds: Communications Minister Obaidul Quader said Saturday there is no sign that the BNP has any organisational or political preparations to wage a movement taking the people with them.
"The BNP's movement is revolving round a circle of frustration," he said speaking as the chief guest at a discussion meeting on National Mourning Day at the Bandarban district Awami League (AL) office in Bandarban.
Presided over by district AL President Kya Shoi Hana, the meeting was also addressed by State Minister for CHT Affairs Bir Bahadur Ushoising and local AL leaders Shafiqur Rahman, Abdur Rahim Chowdhury, Kazi Majibar Rahman and Laxmipada Das as special guests.
The communications minister said the BNP has no issue to wage a movement and the people are not with them. BNP would be more isolated from the people, if it tries to launch a movement, he added.
Obaidul Quader said peace is yet to restore fully in Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT). The internal roads in the hill districts would be developed for the expansion of tourism, he added.
