Remain united to build a discrimination-free country, says Tuku

TANGAIL, June 20 (BSS): State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Sultan Salauddin Tuku said all those who fought against fascism must remain united to build a discrimination-free Bangladesh.
"Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman set a unique example of patriotism. He not only declared independence but also personally participated in the Liberation War and led from the front. After the country achieved independence, he returned to his regular duties. He had no desire for power," Tuku said.
Highlighting Ziaur Rahman's contributions to the country's development, Tuku said the former president rescued Bangladesh from famine and laid the foundation for food self-sufficiency.
He made these remarks as the chief guest while addressing a discussion titled "Life, Work, and Ideals" organized by the Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University at the university's third academic building, marking the 45th martyrdom anniversary of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, the proclaimer of independence, introducer of multi-party democracy, and the architect of modern Bangladesh.
The state minister further mentioned that in the absence of Shaheed Zia, Begum Khaleda Zia endured torture and oppression for 17 long years to work for democracy.
