ASTANA, Kazakhstan, Oct 2 (BSS): State minister for Environment and Forests Dr Hasan Mahmud Saturday said everyone in the planet was vulnerable to the impacts of climate change, but those contributing least to climate change were hit the hardest.
"We are alarmed with the recent IPCC reports for our imminent risk due to climate change," he said making a fervent appeal to developed nations to stand beside the worst victim of climate change.
Mr Hasan was addressing the sixth Ministerial Conference on Environment and Development in Asia and the Pacific in Astana.
"If the current trend continues, 40 million people in Bangladesh would lose their livelihood and 30 million would be displaced by 2050 and require relocation within the country and beyond," he said.
The Government of Kazakhstan, with the support of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), organised the conference.
With the theme of "Green Development," the conference started aiming at providing opportunities for improving the quality of economic growth in the region through addressing environmental challenges.
