Rich tributes were paid to late President Justice Abu Syeed Chowdhury in observance of his 21st anniversary of death at a function held in the city recently.
Speaking on the occasion, Muhammad Musa, Secretary to the Government, said, "The memorable contributions of Justice Abu Syeed Chowdhury to arouse the world conscience for the cause of the Liberation War of Bangladesh will be remembered with gratitude and respect."
Musa, a War Correspondent of Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra in 1971 and presently Secretary-General of the Freedom-Fighter Officers-Employees Association, also said, "Syed Nazrul Islam and Tajuddin Ahmed were providing leadership of the exile government of Bangladesh at Mujibnagar, when Justice Abu Syeed Chowdhury was giving leadership of that government in Europe and America."
He further said, "London was then counted as the second capital of Bangladesh and he was the Head of Bangladesh Government there."
Paying tributes to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Musa made a proposal on behalf of the freedom-fighter officers and employees of Bangladesh government that the capital city Dhaka be renamed as Sheikh Mujib City like Ho Chi Minh City of Vietnam named after their father of nation and the capital city "Washington" of America named after George Washington.
The function was presided over by University of Liberal Art VC Prof Dr Rafiqul Islam and addressed by Jute and Textile Minister Mirza Abdul Latif Siddiqui, Bangla Academy Director General Dr Shamsuzzaman Khan, Supreme Court Bar Association President ASM Mesbah Uddin and Justice Abu Syeed Chowdhury Memorial Association General Secretary Advocate Baset Majumder.
