Rivals hack SL leader to death over UZ polls in Pirojpur

BCL leader found hanging in Madaripur

A Swechchhasebak League (SL) leader was stabbed to death allegedly by his rivals at Kabutarkhali village of Mathbaria upazila in Pirojpur on Monday, repoprts UNB.

The dead is Jony Talukdar (25), vice-president of Gulishakhali union unit of Swechchhashebak League and son of Hashem Ali Talukdar of the village.

He was a supporter of independent upazila chairman candidate Rezaul Islam.

Rezaul had been at loggerheads with Hossain Mosharraf Shakku, an Awami League candidate.

Jony was critically injured after supporters of Shakku reportedly attacked him around 8:45 am, said Shawkat Anwar, officer-in-charge (OC) of Mathbaria thana.

He succumbed to his injuries around 1:00 pm while being taken to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital.

Meanwhile, police recovered the hanging body of a local leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) from Badamtola area in Madaripur town on Monday morning.

The victim was identified as Limon Mazumder, vice-president of Madaripur district BCL unit and a third year student of Government Nazim Uddin College.
