Robber killed in \\\'gunfight\\\' with Faridpur police

FARIDPUR, Mar 16 (UNB): A suspected robber was killed in a gunfight with police in Buraich union of Alfadanga upazila of the district early Monday.
The deceased was identified as Muktar Hossain (27).
Local people caught five suspected robbers including Moktar whilethey were allegedly taking preparations to commit robbery at Joydevpur village and gave them a good beating before handing them over to police on Sunday night.
Pannu Sheikh, chairman of Buraich union parishad, said a group ofbandits were taking preparations to commit robbery in the area.
Suddenly, a crude bomb went off around 9:30 pm, alerting the locals.
Following the confessional statement of Moktar, police conducted a drive in the area with Moktar to recover arms early Monday.
Sensing the presence of law enforcers, Moktar's cohorts fired gunshots in a bid to snatch him, forcing the law enforcers to retaliate, triggering a gunfight, said assistant superintendent of police of Faridpur Circle Kamruzzaman.
The gunfight left Moktar dead on the spot.
The body was sent to Faridpur Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
