RAJSHAHI, Apr 29 (UNB): The left leg of an activist of Rajshahi University unit Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) was chopped off in an attack by miscreants on the university campus Tuesday morning.
The attackers also cut off the tendons of the hands and legs of a BCL leader.
The injured were identified as Togor M Salehi, student stipend affairs secretary of RU unit of BCL and a 2nd year student of the Social Science Department, and Masud Hasan, an activist of the university unit of BCL and a 2nd year student of the History Department.
Witnesses said Togor and Masud came under attack while they were going to attend classes on the campus by a rickshaw from Madar Bux Hall in the morning.
When the rickshaw reached Habibur Rahman Hall, the miscreants swooped on Togor and Masud and dragged them down to the ground from the rickshaw.
The attackers at first chopped off Masud's left leg with Chinese axe and later severed the tendons of the hands and legs of Togor.
The miscreants fled the scene exploding two crude bombs as the grocery shop owners there chased them.
The injured were admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital in a critical condition.
BCL RU unit president Mizanur Rahman Rana blamed Shibir activists for the attack.
Contacted, Shibir leaders, denying the allegation, said the incident might have occurred due to internal feud of the BCL.
Meanwhile, leaders and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) Dhaka University (DU) unit demonstrated on the university campus Tuesday protesting the attack on two fellow activists by unidentified miscreants at Rajshahi University (RU).
