BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia drew on Thursday the attention of democratic world and international community saying that
Bangladesh and South Asian region may face a security threat due to the Awami League government's "repressive policy", reports UNB.
In a statement, she said, "The country had got into the trap of militancy in the past due to Awami League's evil efforts to establish autocracy undercover of one-party rule. We'd contained it. Today, the same fear has reappeared as they've again resorted to repressive policy to obliterate the liberal trend of politics."
Khaleda further said, "It'll not only hamper the security of Bangladesh, but also the entire region. We draw the attention of the international community and democratic world to this harsh reality."
The former Prime Minister also urged the international community to be vocal against the "state terrorism" and in favour of people's democratic movement in Bangladesh.
Mentioning that the government did not pay heed to their repeated calls for overcoming the political crisis for over a year, she said the regime did not reach any understanding due to its intention to cling to power illegally.
She said the government is not even ready to recognise the current political crisis emerged for grabbing power through holding a farcical election. "They think it's possible to suppress people's hopes and aspirations with state terrorism."
"Our backs have now pushed against the wall. No other option but the movement is left for people. Our movement is not to go to power but to restore people's voting and fundamental rights, peace, security, the rule of law and justice," Khaleda observed.
She called upon people to spontaneously join the movement.
