SAARC member-states urged to eradicate extremism

COLOMBO, Jul 30 (UNB): South Asia Media Commission (SAMC) Wednesday urged the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) member-states to take short-and long-term measures to eradicate extremism and violent practices by both state and non-state actors against civilians and journalists in particular.

The call was made by SAMC, a wing of the South Asian Free Media Association, at a conference on Safety of Journalists ahead of the SAARC summit being held here August 2-3.

Editors and senior journalists from eight member-states of SAARC are attending the two-day conference coinciding with the 15th Summit of the SAARC.s
