Salahuddin hopes BNP’s landslide victory in Feb 12 election

BNP Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed has expressed hope that the party will achieve a landslide victory in the upcoming parliamentary election scheduled for February 12, report agencies.
"With overwhelming public support and the spirit of national unity, BNP will form the next government - one that belongs to all citizens," he said, adding that people will regain ownership of the state through the election.
He made the remarks while addressing separate election rallies at the BMS High School ground and surrounding areas in Chakaria upazila Cox’s Bazar on Wednesday.
"You will cast your vote for whomever you wish… You will strengthen democracy," he said, adding, "We want a Bangladesh where no one is forcibly disappeared and no mother has to endure the pain of losing her child."
Salahuddin Ahmed said that if people like the BNP's programms, plans, and vision for the state, they will surely vote for the BNP.
"We believe that other political parties contesting the election will also present their programmes and plans. If people like them, they will vote accordingly. This is the beauty of democracy, and this is how it should be," he added.
He further warned that people should be cautious of any party that, instead of presenting concrete programmes and plans, misleads voters by claiming they will attain heaven if they vote for it.
Meanwhile, the BNP has accused Jamaat-e-Islami of exploiting religious sentiments and attemting to buy votes during the ongoing election campaign, calling it a clear case of political double standards.
"A party (Jamaat) was part of the government from 2001 to 2006, with two ministers and several members of parliament. While in government, no comments were heard from them on corruption," said Mahdi Amin, the spokesperson of the BNP's Central Election Steering Committee.
Speaking at a press briefing at the party's Gulshan election office in the capital on Wednesday, he alleged that the party is now continuing what he described as fascist-style propaganda during the election campaign. "We see this role as political double standards," he said.
