The Supreme Court (SC) has fixed November 17 for hearing on three separate review petitions challenging its verdict that annulled the caretaker government system in the constitution.
The hearing was initially scheduled for Thursday, but Attorney General Md Asaduzzaman sought a four-week deferral, prompting the court to reschedule it.
A six-member bench of the Appellate Division, headed by Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed, set the date after a preliminary hearing on Thursday.
BNP, represented by its Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, represented by its Secretary General Miah Golam Porwar, and five prominent citizens, including Dr. Badiul Alam Majumdar, the secretary of the rights organisation Shushashoner Jonno Nagorik, filed three separate petitions after the regime change on August 5 this year.
The review petitions address the cancellation of the system, which was previously enshrined in the 13th amendment to the constitution in 1996.
