The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court (SC) summarily dismissed Sunday the government's petition seeking stay on the High Court (HC) judgement that had declared illegal the detention order of former law minister and BNP stalwart Moudud Ahmed.
A four-member Bench of the Appellate Division, with Chief Justice M Ruhul Amin presiding, passed the order, reports UNB.
The HC on September 12, upon a petition, declared the detention of Moudud under the Special Powers Acts illegal.
Moudud was arrested from his Gulshan residence on April 13 by the joint forces in their current drive against suspected corrupt politicians, businessman and bureaucrats.
Moudud was initially served with a 30-day detention order, which was later extended by another 19 days.
Rafique-ul Huq appeared for Moudud who is facing at least two criminal cases.
