SC order on Mar 2 on leave petitions of litigant judges

February 27, 2009 00:00:00

The Supreme Court (SC) Thursday set March 2 for order on petitions seeking leave to appeal filed by 29 sitting judges of the High Court against its special bench judgment that had ordered the government to reinstate the 10 unconfirmed additional judges as regular HC judges, reports UNB.

A five-judge Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice MM Ruhul Amin set the date after a seven-day hearing on the petitions.

The justice-seeking judges filed the leave petitions against the July 17, 2008 judgment of the High Court special bench that declared 'unlawful' and 'unconstitutional' the President's action of non-confirmation of 10 HC additional judges despite the Chief Justice's recommendation.

The HC special bench had also ordered the government to reinstate the confirmation-denied additional judges as regular judges ensuring their seniority from the date of non-confirmation.
