SC postpones Mir Nasir's bail plea until Dec 14

The Supreme Court (SC) has kept stand over until December 14 the plea of BNP leader and former state minister for civil aviation Mir Mohammad Nasiruddin, for bail in a graft case, reports BSS.

A three-member Appellate Division (AD) virtual bench headed by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain passed the order as senior lawyers AJ Mohammad Ali and Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kazal mentioned the matter before the court.

Advocate Khurshid Alam Khan was present for the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

Judge Ruhul Imran of Dhaka Special Judge Court-2 on November 8 sent Nasiruddin, also the former mayor of Chattogram City Corporation, to jail as he surrendered before the court and pleaded for bail in the case.

The accused filed a leave-to-appeal plea and also sought bail in the case.

The ACC on March 6, 2007 filed the case with Gulshan thana against Mir Mohammad Nasiruddin and his son Mir Mohammad Helaluddin for amassing illegal wealth and concealing information about their property.

A special judge court on July 4, 2007, sentenced Mir Nasir to 13-year imprisonment and Mir Helal to three-year imprisonment in the case.

The High Court (HC) on August 02 and August 10, 2010, however, scrapped the sentences against Mir Helal and Mir Nasir respectively. But acting on a plea of the anti-graft body, the AD on July 3, 2014, ordered the HC to hear the case afresh and the court on November 19, 2019, upheld the lower court judgment against the accused.
