The Supreme Court (SC) Sunday rejected a government petition against Leader of the Opposition and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia's bail in the Zia Orphanage Trust case, reports bdnews24.com.
A full four-member Appellate Division bench, headed by Chief Justice MM Ruhul Amin, dismissed the government's petition seeking leave to appeal against Khaleda's interim bail in the case that accused her of embezzlement of the Trust's funds.
The Anti-corruption Commission (ACC) filed the case with Ramna Police Station on July 3 last year.
The High Court (HC) awarded Khaleda interim bail on August 26 last year. It had also issued a rule upon the government to explain why she should not be granted permanent bail in the case.
The Appellate Division bench also ordered the government Sunday to reply to the HC rule.
