SC upholds HC bail for 4 BNP leaders

The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court (SC) Sunday upheld the bail granted by the High Court (HC) to four BNP leaders, including its standing committee members Barrister Moudud Ahmed and MK Anwar, in two cases filed with Motijheel Police Station, reports UNB.
The other two leaders are Barrister Rafiqul Islam Mia and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia's special assistant Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas.
A 5-memebr Appellate Division bench, headed by Chief Justice M Muzammel Hossain, rejected four leave to appeal petitions filed by the government against the HC order.
Adv AJ Mohammad Ali and Joynul Abedin, assisted by Barrister Ehsanur Rahman and Sagir Hossain Leon, stood for the accused BNP leaders.
Earlier, on January 21, the HC granted interim bail to the four BNP leaders in two cases filed with Motijheel thana
The two cases were filed on September 24 and November 5 last year.
