Section 144 imposed on Dighinala

KHAGRACHHARI, Jul 2 (UNB): The local administration Wednesday imposed Section 144 in an area stretching from Dighinala Upazila Parishad to Babuchhara Bazar for 18 hours Thursday as two rival groups called separate programmes at the same venue and same time.
The restriction will remain in force from 6.00 am to Thursday midnight.
Dighinala Bhumi Rakkhya Committee organised a human chain and demonstration programme at Babuchhara demanding withdrawal of BGB battalion-51 from the area and returning the homesteads of the indigenous people evicted earlier.
On the other hand, Parbatya Bangalee Chhatra Parishad called another human chain and demonstration programme demanding exemplary punishment of those involved in attacking BGB battalion.
Apprehending trouble, Dighinala Upazila Nirbahi Officer imposed the restriction to maintain law and order, said Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Khagrachhari Masud Karim.
Earlier, 19 people, including six BGB men, were injured in a clash between a group of indigenous villagers and BGB when the local people obstructed BGB men to establish an office for the BGB-51 battalion on June 10.
