Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairperson Khaleda Zia will get all the facilities due to a first class detainee in sub-jail, jail authorities said Monday.
Security had also been beefed up at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban premises before Khaleda Zia was brought to the sub-jail, reports bdnews24.com.
Additional members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), police and riot police have been deployed there.
Deputy Inspector General (prisons) Major Shamsul Haider Siddiqui told journalists outside the jail at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban premises.
"Khaleda Zia will get all the facilities due to a first class detainee. She will be allowed to watch TV and read books and newspapers. A chair and table has been provided in her room for reading", he said.
Siddiqui said Khaleda Zia will stay in a first floor room in the special jail. "However, if necessary she can use four adjoining rooms", he added.
Replying to questions from reporters, Siddiqui said: "Khaleda Zia and Sheikh Hasina have been kept in two separate buildings in the Sangsad Bhaban premises. The two buildings are situated about 60 to 70 yards apart."
AC (police) of Tejgaon zone Atiqur Rahman said, "Two hundred additional police have been deployed at the Sangsad Bhaban premises to ensure safety of Khaleda Zia."
Prison authorities said Khaleda Zia had only taken tea after arriving at the special jail. After that she has been resting, they said.
