Adviser for Foreign Affairs Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury assured foreign diplomats that all security measures were in place for their protection so they could work unhindered.
The foreign adviser told journalists after briefing diplomats and representatives of international organisations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs office in the city Sunday, reports UNB.
"The situation is under control… curfew will gradually be relaxed", he said.
The briefing was organised to inform the diplomats of the situation arising out of the recent student unrest and the government steps and actions to bring the situation under control.
The adviser assured that the roadmap set for holding the general elections would not be detracted and all goals would be achieved within the stipulated timeline.
"There is no doubt about implementation of the roadmap and the government will not stay away from reforms", he said.
Chowdhury also briefed the diplomats on the government steps to deal with the flood and its aftermath.
Bangladesh believed in peace and the diplomats agreed with him and extended support to the government steps, he said.
Emerging from the meeting, all the diplomats except the British High Commissioner avoided making any comment on the recent student protests and the government's follow-up actions.
On the briefing, US Charge d'Affaires Geeta Pasi smilingly said they were apprised of what was going on. "It was informative."
