'Setback in trying war criminals will be an onslaught on morale'

Leading war crimes researcher Dr MA Hassan warned against any setback in trying 1971 crimes against humanity fearing such failures could be an onslaught on the nation's morale.
"The prosecution must process under a well-planned way of action and no major war crime suspect should be detained without due preparations so that they could not evade justice," he told BSS Friday in an interview.
Hassan, a 1971 veteran, heads the War Crimes Facts Finding Committee (WCFFC), which was engaged in gathering evidence against 1971 war crimes for several years.
The committee provided a list of 1775 war crime suspects to the special prosecution panel and investigation agency constituted along with the International Crimes Tribunal.
"The investigation could be carried out on the basis of extent of crimes committed by someone or on the basis of areas ... but it should be done in a sincere and efficient manner so they could be tried and punished quickly," he said.
