The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Posts and Telecommunications Ministry Thursday recommended setting up of a national internet exchange (NIX) in the public sector for low cost data transfer, reports BSS.
The recommendation was made at the 21st meeting of the committee held at the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Bhaban.
The committee Chairman Hasanul Haq Inu presided over the meeting, said a press release.
The meeting asked the Ministry concerned and the Bangladesh Telecommunication Company Limited (BTCL) to take quick decisions on how to give the five closed Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) companies the chance to work again.
It recommended the authorities to stop all types of illegal VoIP (voice over internet protocol) business or legalise the business in two months.
The meeting thanked all concerned for the country's election as a member of the International Telecommunication Union (IUT) for the tenure 2010-2014.
